Millennials have been studied and analyzed perhaps more than any other generation, and not without good reason, as they recently surpassed Baby Boomers to become the largest generation. Currently, there are about 75.4 million Millennials in the United States, compared to about 74.9 million Baby Boomers. 

To better understand Millennials, Casual Living fielded its second annual Millennials versus Boomers survey. The results are mixed. In some ways, Millennials and Boomers vary considerably, such as when researching and shopping for outdoor furniture. In other ways, such as how they choose to relax in their outdoor spaces, the generations aren’t much different.

About the data

Casual Living fielded an online consumer survey in January. The exclusive 2017 Millennials versus Boomers Outdoor Survey asked about outdoor living and purchasing. The survey garnered responses from 496 respondents across all generations, including 175 Millennials and 178 Baby Boomers. The sample was nationally representative by region, age, gender, ethnicity and household income. Significance is reported at the 95% confidence level.
