On average, more than half of outdoor sales occur during the spring and summer months of April, May, June, July and August. That's according to this year's exclusive Casual Living Store Operations Survey. Surprisingly, one-third of annual outdoor sales occur during the fall and winter months of September, October, November and December. The rise of fire pit sales and fire pit chat groups have encouraged consumers to enjoy the outdoors all year long. Casual Living's exclusive 2014 Store Operations Survey is based on responses of retailers across the United States. Responding retailers include casual furniture specialists, hearth, patio, pool, and/or spa stores, full-line furniture stores, direct-to-consumer retailers and home center and/or hardware stores. Store locations represent all regions of the country with one third in the South, 28% in the Midwest, 21% in the Northeast and 18% in the West. Nearly one-third of responding retailers had 2013 sales of less than $1 million; 18% had sales between $1 million and $1.99 million; 10% between $2 million and $2.99 million; and 40% had year-end sales of $3 million or more. The 2014 survey represents figures for 2013. Numbers from the 2012 Casual Living Store Operations Survey, printed June 2012, represent figures from 2011.
