This look at a decade in the history of Furniture Today's Top 100 is based on 11 years of research, reporting and insight by the newspaper's market research team and Senior Retail Editor Clint Engel. From a baseline in 1999, the report looks at the collective performance of a changing roster of the largest furniture store companies operating in the U.S. over the next 10 years. Sales figures are Furniture Today estimates, unless the figures are specifically reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
They reflect sales in furniture, bedding and decorative accessories categories each year, including fabric and fabric protection and warranties. Each year's Top 100 is based on sales from the previous year, with the 2009 list reflecting 2008 sales, for example. This report reflects sales of the changing lineup of Top 100 companies from year to year. It differs from the annual Top 100 reports, which show sales of a specific year's Top 100 in that year and the previous year.
