The rise of bedding e-tailers has sparked a seismic shift in the industry, with $1 billion in retail business being funneled into that channel in the past two years.
Furniture Today’s new bedding distribution report documents this shift, revealing that the direct-to-consumer channel, which was just 6% of the retail marketplace in 2014, now commands a 12% share.
About the data
Furniture Today examines retail mattress distribution trends every two years. The business resource first sends a questionnaire to Top 15 bedding producers, who together account for about 90% of wholesale domestic shipments. Those producers provide confidential estimates of channel shares, in addition to also providing on-the-record comments on key channels and the changes occurring in them. (See accompanying
Furniture Today uses a weighted average of those estimates to develop preliminary estimates for the key bedding distribution channels.
