Home Accents Today's most recent Universe Study (December 2014) revealed direct-to-consumer to be the fastest growing retail distribution channel, growing 4% ?? from $7.47 billion in 2013 to $7.77 billion in 2014. That figure measures only the websites and catalogs that do not have a brick-and-mortar presence. Not surprisingly, the category with the strongest direct-to-consumer growth was decorative accessories which, at 3.9% growth, topped the category's overall growth of 3.1%. Direct-to-consumer sales of wall décor topped its category's overall growth of 2.2%, as, too, did lamps, permanent botanicals and area rugs within their respective categories. Growth in consumer confidence, housing starts and the convenience of online shopping are all contributing to the strengthening of the direct-to consumer channel and will continue to do so through at least 2020, according to most estimates.
Home Accents Today's exclusive report lists major direct-to-consumer retailers in alphabetical order. This list is by no means comprehensive. Many more than the direct retailers listed here are strong players within the home furnishings industry in online sales. This report does not rank companies, nor does it feature home accent retailers who have both a brick-and-mortar and a direct presence, such as Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, Home Depot or Target. All sales figures and ranges are Home Accents Today market research estimates and are for total 2014 sales, which may include revenues from the sale of products other than home furnishings. Home Accents Today chooses not to include some companies due to lack of verification of revenue figures.
