Ten percent of sales take place online, with Amazon currently accounting for about 1.5% of U.S. retail transactions. An estimated 10% of furniture and bedding retail sales took place online last year, while in some home accent categories, the internet evolved as the perfect place to do research — 71% of area rug buyers revealing they went online to pre-shop their potential purchases, according to Furniture/Today’s 2016 Home Decorating Survey with the readers of New York-based Apartment Therapy. This report, Home Accents Today’s third annual survey of the online channel’s key home retailers and trends, takes a closer look at the category’s sales leaders. We will follow up in September with a look at some of the new and niche players, as well as an in-depth report on the blending of content, curation and commerce, especially in the online retail world.
About the data
Home Accents Today’s exclusive report lists major online retailers in alphabetical order. This list is by no means comprehensive. Many more than the direct retailers listed here are strong players within the home furnishings industry. This report does not rank companies, nor does it feature home accent retailers who have both a brick-and-mortar and an online presence, such as Williams-Sonoma, Home Depot and Target. All sales figures and ranges are Home Accents Today market research estimates and are for total 2015 sales, which may include revenues from the sale of products other than home furnishings. Home Accents Today chooses not to include some companies due to lack of verification of revenue figures.
