Where a person lives often has a very strong impact on the style of home décor that he or she is most likely to embrace, according to a recent “Style Census” by the product curation team at Dot & Bo, a San Francisco-based e-commerce site for home furnishings.
Founded in 2013, Dot & Bo describes itself as “a guided shopping service to help transform homes into vibrant, modern living spaces.” Dot & Bo developed this Style Census by sampling 100,000 product orders and quantifying the most dominant looks in each of the 15 metropolitan areas identified.
For this report, Home Accents Today married Dot & Bo’s Style Census findings with data estimating 2015 sales and projecting 2020 sales in wall décor, lamps and area rugs for each of the 15 metro areas, based on population growth forecasts.
The 2015 sales estimates and 2020 projections were developed by Home Accents Today market research and Easy Analytic Software Inc. Sales figures are based on data available through October 2015 and are subject to revision. Estimates are based on information from the Department of Commerce, the International Trade Commission, sales estimates from manufacturers and retailers, Home Accents Today consumer surveys and information garnered from discussions with industry executives and analysts.
Projections for 2020 are designed to forecast the changes that statistically adjust for household income, age by race and gender, group quarter population and births and deaths, along with other forecasting factors. Spending forecasts assume a national rate of inflation that does not vary from one location to another.
The data is for the city’s core based statistical area. Each city is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as a major metropolitan area. The metro areas included are: Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, Ga., Boston- Cambridge-Newton, Mass.- N.H., Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, Ill.-Ind.-Wis., Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington, Texas, Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Colo., Kansas City, Mo.-Kan., Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Calif., Miami- Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, Fla., Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minn.- Wis., Nashville-Davidson- Murfreesboro-Franklin, Tenn.,
