Outside is where a 33-year-old from Michigan "eats the majority of meals at home during the warmer months." A 38-year-old from North Carolina says "eating outside makes all food taste better." And, a 30-year-old from Texas puts it this way, "My outdoor room enhances my enjoyment of great food and conversations." More than seven out of 10 consumers own an outdoor dining set, including 5-piece, 7-piece and bistro sets. Half of all Baby Boomers, currently between the ages of 50 to 68, own a 5-piece dining set, as do 37% of Generation X, between ages 34 and 49, and about one-fourth of all Millennials, those under age 34. Seven-piece sets are on the shopping lists of 22% of Millennials. Casual Living and New York-based Apartment Therapy fielded an online consumer survey this May. The survey, asking readers about the outdoor spaces in and around their home, garnered responses from more than 400 consumers. Founded in 2004, Apartment Therapy currently reaches more than eight million unique readers online each month.
