While only 4% of U.S. consumers currently own an outdoor kitchen, nearly half of those with an outdoor room would like to add an outdoor kitchen to their space. That's one of the findings from the nearly 5,000 U.S. consumers answering Casual Living and HGTV's exclusive Consumer Views Survey. All outdoor kitchens owned by responding consumers feature a grill and another seven out of 10 have electricity. Half contain a refrigerator and nearly half incorporate either seating and additional cooking elements or burners. Forty-seven percent have some type of shade cover and another 43% include a music system. This exclusive Casual Living and HGTV Outdoor Furniture Consumer Survey is based on the responses of 4,922 U.S. consumers. Casual Living, in partnership with HGTV surveyed consumer households about outdoor kitchens and firepits in April 2012. The online survey linked to HGTV's Inspiration e-newsletter. An outdoor kitchen was defined to respondents as a permanent structure that has a grill/smoker, as well as a food prep area, other kitchen appliances and/or other features and is not a stand-alone grill. The research was analyzed by Casual Living's research department.
