Bedding and stationary upholstery are this year’s winners in terms of sales

market share within furniture stores. The mattress category gained two percentage points of market share from 14% last year to 16% in 2016. And, stationary upholstery gained one percentage point of share to a full 25% of furniture store sales. Furniture stores also increased the number of lines carried for bedding and sofas. In 2016, stores carry a median of four bedding lines, up from a median of three last year, and a median of eight fabric stationary sofa lines, compared with seven last year.
