Furniture/Today's Consumer Health & Wellness Report, 2015
Product Description

This exclusive report presents data on consumers interested in massage and massage chairs; the aging Baby Boomer generation; and the number of U.S. consumers with health issues. Six out of 10 consumers are interested in massage, according to new Furniture/Today research with the readers of the online design resource Apartment Therapy. And younger consumers are more interested than older ones, finding the need to relax and unwind in today's plugged-in world. No longer do consumers need to go to a luxury spa for a massage as today's massage chairs bring the convenience and effectiveness of a massage straight to the home. Here's a sobering fact: each day, 8,000 Baby Boomers turn 65.
In fact, 17% of the Baby Boomer generation is between ages 65 and 68. Another fourth of Boomers are in their early 60s, between 60 and 64. Baby Boomers began turning 65 in 2011. Per the latest Census Bureau data, nearly 45 million Americans are currently age 65 and older. That amounts to about 14% of the total population. One in four older Americans belongs to the Baby Boomer generation. The statistics are alarming: Lower back pain is an issue for 33% of Americans ages 55 to 64; Neck pain is a reality for 19% of those between 45 and 54; Migraine headaches are a problem for 18% of Americans ages 25 to 44; Heart disease is an issue for 26% of Americans between ages 65 and 74.
