Product Description
This report originally appeared in the August 2012 print issue of Kids Today
The 2011 U.S. Department of Agriculture's Expenditures on Children by Families study reported the total cost of raising a child from birth to age 17, for affluent families is now $389,670, compared with $234,900 for households in the middle-income group and $169,080 for households in the lowest-income group. A little more than 20% of all U.S. households are affluent, meaning they have household incomes of $100,000 or more, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The USDA's annual report calculates the cost of specific budgetary items parents pay for in the 17 years before a child reaches adulthood.
